Cellulite is an aesthetic problem created by the degeneration of the microcirculation of adipose tissue. The consequence of this degeneration is tissue hypertrophy (an increase in the volume of fat cells) and fluid retention.

Some of the many possible causes of cellulite:
  1. Genetic predispositions: the main cause of this condition is a genetic predisposition towards having a weak connective tissue. In this case, it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle and increase physical activity to strengthen the afflicted areas.
  2. Obesity: we gain weight, when you consume more calories than we burn. The calories that are not needed get stored as fat. This mechanism produces subcutaneous fat in women, which (combined with a weak connective tissue), causes swelling and nodules on the skin surface.
  3. Poor eating habits: eating too much meat, animal fats, sugar and salt creates the circumstances for the appearance of cellulite. You need to keep in mind that a diet rich in fats is only suitable for people engaged in heavy physical labor and thus require large amounts of energy. The body can store fat in almost unlimited quantities and excess calories from sugar and fatty foods, can be easily turn into fat and make the situation worse.
So, what kind of foods should you eat?
  • Broccoli: it protects the capillaries and prevents the circulatory blockage that promotes cellulite.
  • Artichoke: it stimulates the activity of the liver by promoting fat metabolism. Due to its high fibre content, artichoke helps to fight constipation, which is closely related to cellulite.
  • Chicory: it has a powerful detoxifying effect, it stimulates the liver and helps purify the blood.
  • Cabbage: it satisfies appetite. Cabbage protects the arteries, capillaries and veins, which improves blood circulation. What is more, it eliminates toxins from the body.
  • Apples: they help to combat obesity and reduce cholesterol in the blood. Apples can also keep you full for longer, because they are rich in fibre and have a low percentage of sugar.
  • Spinach: it has a cleansing effect and stimulates blood circulation.
  • Green tea: it limits the absorption of calories by the body and stimulates the production of adrenaline.
  • Complex carbohydrates: In general we can say that our daily meals should consist of 55-60% carbohydrates. But it is necessary to make a distinction between complex and simple carbs: you should stay away from white flour products and sugar and choose complex carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables and whole grain products, because they increase blood sugar levels slowly and steadily. Complex carbohydrates are an important component of an anti-cellulite diet, because they are absorbed almost completely by the body and don't leave any toxic wastes behind, which could be deposited in the tissues and cause cellulite.
